"A more balanced approach to YuGiOh"

What is Chicago Format?

Good Question. Every day, many YuGiOh players leave the game. Why? Many complain of not being able to compete with their favorite deck anymore. Others simply can't afford to stay competitive with the constantly changing meta. What deck do I need to buy this week? Shaddolls? Nekroz? Performapals? Everyone complains, but no one actually does anything about it. How do we remedy this problem you may be asking? My proposition? An alternate banlist.

Wait... Are You Trying to Replace the Advanced Format?

Of course not! I recognize that the advanced format is vital to the health of the game. Think of Advanced like Magic: the Gathering's Standard Format (Dirty word, I know.) Standard is a rotating format that basically helps Wizards of the Coast sell cards. The cards you play in that format are constantly changing with each set released. However, Standard is the most widely played format, and has the most FNMs (Locals). Wherever you go, you can always count on a comic book shop playing standard. Wizards needs to make mony somewhere. On the other hand, our Traditional format is like MTG's Legacy: fast paced, (almost) banlist free, and unplayed. We deserve something in between these two extremes. We need an "eternal" format, like Modern or Legacy, where the deck you played yesterday won't become irrelavent in three month's time.

Okay, Okay. So what's the goal of this "new banlist" of yours?

Remember back in March 2014, that awesomely diverse format we had? The format where you could play anything from Sylvan to Bujin to Evilswarm and still be competitive? That is what we're trying to do right now. Yes, we're trying to undo a crap ton of powercreep. We want you to find a pet deck and roll with it as long as you like.

Why should I play this new format?

Well, there's the obvious appeal of being able to play whatever deck you like. The decks we used for standardization were: 2014 Fire Fists, 2014 Madolches, 2014 Mermails, and Evilswarm. Also, when a deck clearly dominates, we won't ban it out of existance like Konami likes to do. We will try our best to hit it without destroying it. We also plan to be very receptive to fan comments and suggestions. We aren't motivated to sell you cards like Konami or ARG. Also, we want you to be able to afford the game, play the deck you like, and have a good shot at competing based on the amount of your skill as a deckbuilder and player, not the size of your wallet. We're players just like you, and we just want to create the most fun, affordable, and diverse format we possibly can.
